DIY Pizza

Ham, mozzarella mushroom pizza

Pizza is a firm favourite in this house an although like everyone else sometimes it comes in a box from the supermarket or from the local take-away nothing tastes better than homemade!  It really is super simple, try it once and I guarantee you won’t look back.

Pizza Dough

Ingredients

450g plain flour

1.5 tsp fast-action yeast

1.5 tsp salt

2 Tbsp olive oil

300 ml warm water

  1. Put the flour, yeast, and salt in a large mixing bowl.  Stir briefly to combine the dry ingredients.
  2. Add the olive oil and the warm water and mix into a fairly wet dough.
  3. Tip the dough onto a lightly floured surface and knead until it becomes smooth.  This will take about 5 minutes.
  4. Place the dough in a large bowl, cover and leave in a warm place to rise for an hour or so.  If you haven’t got that long skip the rising stage!
  5. Split the dough into four even pieces and shape with your hands or on a floured surface with a rolling-pin into a nice round.  Place on a baking tray.

Toppings

Ham, mushroom and mozzarella

Ingredients

Passata

8 button mushrooms sliced

4 slices of ham cut up

150g mozzarella torn up

Sprinkling of parmesan

  1.  Spread the passata over the pizza bases. Arrange the mushrooms and ham before topping with the cheeses.
  2. Bake for 10 to 12 minutes at 220C fan.  Serve with a nice dressed salad.

Alternatively make up your own toppings.  Here is a asparagus, mushroom and red pepper pizza.

  1. We had this on Sunday night. Delicious. Even josh (9 months old) liked it – although he mostly gummed it and didn’t get much down!
